About XENON
For more than 30 years XENON has engineered the computing infrastructure behind Australia’s hardest problems: training AI models, sequencing genomes, rendering feature films, executing trades in microseconds. When off-the-shelf hardware can’t keep up, our engineers design, build and support systems matched precisely to the workload.
The role
When a customer’s server fails, you restore it. You’ll take the call, work out what’s wrong, be onsite, replace the faulty parts and confirm the system is healthy before you leave. The work is hands-on and time-critical, and the quality of your fix and your notes matters as much as the speed.
What you’ll do
Respond and diagnose
- Take hardware incidents from the service desk, triage them remotely and plan the visit, including the parts needed.
- Attend customer data centres within SLA windows, in metro and regional areas.
Repair and restore
- Replace failed components: motherboards, CPUs, memory, GPUs, drives, PSUs, fans, backplanes, RAID/HBA controllers and NICs.
- Troubleshoot GPU-specific faults, including power, thermal, PCIe and NVLink issues.
- Update BIOS/UEFI and firmware where the fix requires it.
- Verify the repair with POST, standalone diagnostics and stress tests before sign-off.
- **”repairs might be done, under guidance from HW OEM Manufacturer.”
Work to the plan
- Follow approved procedures and the agreed scope of work. If site conditions or requested tasks don’t match the plan, stop and escalate rather than absorbing extra work.
- Follow data centre access, change-control and OHS requirements, including PPE and safe manual handling.
Close out
- Pack, label and return faulty parts within the required timeframes, and manage RMAs with Supermicro and distributors.
- Record every job in the ticketing system with accurate notes, parts used and test results.
- Keep your spares kit and tools stocked, and add to the knowledge base.
- Join the after-hours and on-call roster [if applicable].
What you’ll bring
- 2–3 years in server hardware support, field service or data centre break/fix.
- Hands-on experience replacing motherboards, CPUs, memory, GPUs, storage and controllers.
- Practical knowledge of Supermicro platforms and GPU servers.
- Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC platforms, DDR4/DDR5, NVMe/SAS/SATA and RAID.
- Working Linux skills (diagnostics and drivers) and Windows Server.
- The discipline to follow procedures, and the judgement to escalate when something doesn’t match the plan.
- Clear communication with customers and internal teams, and ticketing experience.
- Able to lift [x] kg and work in cold, noisy environments.
- An unrestricted driver’s licence and willingness to travel.
Qualifications
A diploma, trade qualification or technical certification, or equivalent practical experience.
Why XENON
- Work on the fabric layer of next-generation AI factories — not a legacy enterprise network.
- Direct exposure to the newest NVIDIA networking platforms (Cumulus Linux, Spectrum-X) as they ship.
- A small, senior team where your fabric designs go straight into production clusters.
- Competitive salary, plus the training and certification support to stay current on a fast-moving stack.
- Open to candidates based overseas — visa sponsorship and relocation support to Australia are available for the right person.
